Sony DSC-RX100 Mark VII A
With the RX100 VII A (model DSC-RX100M7), Sony continues its award-winning RX camera series. The camera utilizes technologies developed for Sony’s Alpha 9 full-frame mirrorless camera. As a result, the RX100 VII delivers professional-grade performance despite being a compact camera. At the heart of the new RX100 VII are the newly developed 1.0-inch Exmor RS CMOS image sensor and the latest-generation BIONZ X image processor. They open up new dimensions in autofocus performance and speed that were previously only available in the Alpha 9. The ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* Zoom lens (24–200 mm, f/2.8–4.5) provides great flexibility when shooting, making the RX100 VII suitable for use in all shooting conditions.
Setting New Standards for AF Performance in Compact Cameras
The RX100 VII A is equipped with a world-leading total of 357 phase-detection AF points and 425 contrast-detection AF points. Furthermore, thanks to optimized lens drive control, it achieves the world’s fastest AF speed of 0.02 seconds. The significantly improved AF/AE tracking performance during continuous shooting enables up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second and captures fast-moving subjects at up to 20 frames per second—allowing you to capture every moment quickly and sharply. Unrestricted Live View without blackout is possible with the new image sensor—even during continuous shooting at 20 frames per second. This matches the performance of the Alpha 9. In addition, the RX100 VII A is equipped with a new single-shot continuous shooting mode. This mode, combined with an anti-distortion shutter, enables perfect high-speed shooting in JPEG/RAW format. With the single-shot burst mode, you can capture fast-moving subjects—the camera takes 7 different shots when the shutter is released at 90, 60, or 30 frames per second, from which the user can then select the perfect image.
The RX100 VII is the first compact camera to feature precise real-time tracking and real-time eye autofocus. Real-time tracking utilizes Sony’s latest algorithm with AI-based object recognition. This ensures that subjects are always in focus, even when selecting a subject by touching the display. Real-time Eye AF is the latest version of Sony’s eye autofocus technology, which also uses AI to detect the subject’s eyes and process collected data extremely quickly. This optimizes the accuracy, speed, and tracking performance of Eye AF for both people and animals, allowing photographers to focus entirely on composing their shots.
A Little Film Wonder
The RX100 VII A is so compact and lightweight (approx. 302 g / 102 mm x 58 mm x 43 mm) that it fits in any pocket and can be used even where other cameras are too large. Nevertheless, it offers a wide range of professional features for video recording, such as vlogging:
Built-in 4K video recording with full-pixel readout without pixel binning at a high bitrate in XAVC S format
Real-time tracking and real-time eye AF during video recording
4K ActiveSteadyShot, which is 8 times more effective than standard 4K SteadyShot
Built-in microphone jack
Hybrid Log-Gamma (HDR16)/S-Gamut3.Cine/S-Log3, S-Gamut3/S-Log3
Compatible with the “Movie Edit Add-on” feature—an add-on for the Imaging Edge app for smartphones—for enhanced image stabilization and editing during video recording
Portrait-orientation recording for movies in Video mode
