The Z8 is equipped with a multi-layer (stacked) CMOS sensor and the EXPEED 7 processor, which are also used in the Z9. This guarantees outstanding image quality straight from the camera that meets the highest professional standards.

Flexibility for every workflow

Thanks to its outstanding image quality, the Nikon Z8 offers creatives maximum flexibility to adapt to any workflow,

with a wide range of frame rates and codecs available to capture movies. These include in-camera 12-bit RAW for movies at up to 8.3K/60p or 4.1K/120p. Photographers can choose from a range of file formats and continuous shooting speeds, including an astonishing 120 frames per second. There are further options for creating HDR content. The camera can shoot 10-bit HEIF photos and 10-bit HLG movies in addition to raw files.

Despite the smaller and lighter body, the reliability of the Nikon Z8 is retained. The camera is equipped with professional weather sealing and has the same cold tolerance as Nikon's top models, the D6 and Z9, ensuring reliable performance even in low temperatures.

Users can record 12-bit RAW footage in-camera and choose to work with the professional Apple ProRes RAW HQ codec (up to 4.1k 60p) or the highly efficient N-RAW codec from Nikon (up to 8.3k/60p), which requires half the memory in comparison.

The large focal length range of 180 - 600 mm covers the most common focal lengths for wildlife, bird and aircraft photography and offers plenty of flexibility for sports and landscape photography. Thanks to the close focusing distance of just 2.4 m at 600 mm and 1.3 m at 180 mm, you can also achieve sharp images at close range.

Pinpoint autofocus

Autofocus is optimized for capturing fast-moving subjects such as birds, wildlife, sports and aircraft - whether you're shooting stills or video. The high-speed stepping motor (STM) is extremely quiet during focusing and movie recording. This is particularly suitable for photographing shy wild animals. Subject tracking is possible in conjunction with mirrorless Nikon Z cameras, which have animal or vehicle subject recognition, very reliable.

Powerful in-lens image stabilization

The Nikon image stabilizer (VR) built into the lens compensates for camera shake caused by hand-held shooting, panning, tripod vibration - whatever - giving you a 5.5 f-stop advantage.1 You can shoot with longer exposure times without losing sharpness. This is ideal in low light. During fast movements, the SPORT mode also stabilizes the viewfinder image, making it easier to shoot fast or unpredictable subjects.

Sometimes you need as much reach as possible. Combine this super telephoto Zoom lens with the lightweight 2.0x teleconverter from the Nikon-Z series to extend your reach to 1200 mm. Or with the 1.4x Z-series teleconverter for 840 mm. No loss of image quality: the lens' six ED glass elements reduce longitudinal color aberrations even when using a teleconverter.
