Bokeh Redefined – Creative Control of Spherical Aberration
The PORTRAIT HELIAR 75 mm F1.8 is an exceptional, fast portrait lens for full-frame cameras—exclusively for Nikon Z-Mount. It is a full-frame interchangeable lens equipped with a mechanism for precise control of spherical aberration, opening up entirely new creative possibilities in image composition.
The development focused on the interplay between spherical aberration and bokeh. A specially designed control ring allows you to precisely adjust under- and over-correction—thereby creating completely different bokeh characteristics:
Under-correction: Soft focus with gentle light halos, dreamily creamy background bokeh
Over-correction: Clearly defined focal point with striking, bubble-like bokeh
What was long considered a flaw in classical optics is here deliberately used as a means of artistic expression. The PORTRAIT HELIAR was designed from the ground up to make these characteristics creatively usable.
Classic design, modern innovation
Despite its compact Heliar design with 6 elements in 3 groups, the lens achieves an impressive maximum aperture of f/1.8.
Changes in spherical aberration are usually accompanied by shifts in focus—the PORTRAIT HELIAR 75 mm F1.8 counteracts this effect with a sophisticated mechanism that adjusts the lens spacing in sync with the position of the control ring, keeping the focus position stable.
A subtle, tactile mark on the control ring allows you to feel the set correction range—ideal for intuitive operation.
Precision You Can Feel
The all-metal lens impresses with its exceptional mechanical quality. The high-precision metal helicoid is specially lubricated and ensures a silky-smooth, consistent focus operation—even at wide-open aperture and with minimal depth of field.
Electronic contacts enable the transmission of EXIF data and support in-camera functions such as focus magnification and image stabilization (on compatible cameras). Mechanical aperture control is achieved in the traditional manner via an aperture ring directly on the lens; 9 aperture blades ensure a particularly harmonious and aesthetically pleasing rendering of out-of-focus areas.
