New standards in terms of resolution and bokeh
The lens has two XA elements (extremely aspherical) of Sony with a surface precision of 0.01 μm. This lens has distortions, astigmatism and image field curvature, which are common with wide-angle Zoom lenses, well under control. Less attractive bokehs, such as so-called onion rings, are successfully prevented by the XA elements, so that only wonderfully soft bokehs occur in the non-focused areas.
Clarity and contrast in any light
The original Sony nano coating reduces unwanted reflections, which can lead to light reflections and ghost effects in backlit or other difficult shooting situations. The result is consistently high contrast and excellent clarity. By suppressing reflections across a wide spectrum of light, you gain flexibility in framing and composition, especially at wide-angle focal lengths.
Eleven blades for beautiful bokeh
The original circular aperture of Sony with 11 blades contributes to an even better bokeh quality. The design and material have been reworked to maintain the round shape of the diaphragm and strict circularization standards have been applied to ensure the full bokeh of the lens is achieved without restriction.
Precise and responsive manual focus
The SELC1635G has a smooth, quiet, linear-response manual focus that is instantaneous, precise and intuitive to control. The focus ring offers a wide rotation option (120 degrees) for fine tuning. Steps and a clear distance scale allow uninterrupted focus changes and resets during multiple takes. Filmmakers can also reverse the Zoomring and specify that f-stop settings are precisely indicated by tactile feedback.
More options for content producers
The SELC1635G's fixture has an industry standard 0.8mm size and 114mm lens diameter, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of accessories, from matte boxes to focus pullers. The Zoomring rotation is also reversible to suit manufacturers of selected photographic lenses.
Detachable servo Zoom
The included servo unit allows easy fingertip control for smooth, gradual Zooms, such as for a slowly rotated shot or a promotional video. Servo and manual control can be interchanged by pressing the button on the lens. When servo control is set, you can control the Zoom via the camera handle or grip it directly. In addition, the servo unit can also be detached if required.
Fast and accurate AF and AE
The SELC1635G supports the hybrid phase/contrast detection autofocus (AF) and auto-exposure (AE) functions of the FX9 full-frame camera. This breakthrough technology allows you to focus on framing while the camera and lens work seamlessly together to maintain focus on subjects with shallow depth of field.
Fast, precise autofocus
The floating system is made possible by dual DD-SSM (Direct Drive SuperSonic Motor) ultrasonic motor mechanisms. The special design of Sony controls two different focus groups and thus supports high speed and precision as well as smooth movements. This enables ideal autofocus for both video and still photography.
