The new COOLPIX P1000 - a camera that could be a telescope
These are the highlights of the COOLPIX P1000
High-performance zoom
Above the clouds - and beyond. Shoot with optical 125x Zoom (24-3,000 mm) and 250x Dynamic Fine Zoom (6,000 mm).
Fantastic shots
Fast NIKKOR lens (f/2.8-1:8), 16-megapixel sensor, EXPEED image processor, and RAW support work together perfectly to deliver sharp results.
Super-Tele 4K movies
Easily shoot video in 4K/UHD-30p or Full HD (1080p) at frame rates up to 60p. The manual video mode is particularly suitable for demanding videos, which can be recorded uncompressed to an external recorder if required (Clean HDMI Output). The stereo sound can be recorded either with the built-in microphone or optionally with a professional external microphone.
System flash shoe
As the first Nikon Bridge compact digital camera, the P1000 is equipped with the Nikon system hot shoe, which supports the operation of modern Nikon SB flash units.
Shake-free images
The optical image stabilizer (VR) with Dual Detect technology and compensation of 5.0 EV steps minimizes the effects of unsteady camera posture and ensures blur-free photos and movies. The activated image stabilizer also delivers a steadier image in the viewfinder and monitor.
All angles
The bright 8.1 cm (3.2-inch) LCD monitor with 921,000 pixels can be tilted and rotated in almost any direction, effortlessly enabling flexible image compositions from unusual angles.
Outstanding view
The high-resolution electronic OLED viewfinder with its 2.36 megapixels and approx. 0.68x magnification offers the perfect view. The integrated eye sensor automatically switches from monitor use to the electronic viewfinder when the eye approaches the viewfinder.
Convenient Zoom switch
A large grip and side Zoomswitch make operation easy. An overview button instantly pulls the lens back from the super telephoto to a wider angle, making it easier to find subjects that have moved out of the shooting range.
Perfect results
RAW support allows users to save image files uncompressed and develop them in compatible editing programs.
Share the excitement
SnapBridge connectivity allows photos to be automatically transferred to a smart device immediately after capture for instant sharing. SnapBridge also allows smart devices to be used for remote shooting.

The 125x optical Zoom offers the world's widest focal length range of 24-3,000mm. The 250x Dynamic Fine Zoom additionally extends the upper limit digitally to an incredible 6,000mm. That's enough Zoom power to capture craters on the moon with.
The high-quality fast NIKKOR lens (f/2.8-1:8) ensures excellent results even in low-light conditions. Nikons advanced lens technologies minimize distortion and enable exceptionally sharp images, even when shooting at super telephoto focal lengths. RAW support allows photographers to save image files uncompressed and process them with the editing program of their choice. Videos can be recorded in 4K/UHD: perfect for filming wildlife in their natural environment.
Ines Bernardes, product manager at Nikon Europe, comments, "If you want to photograph the next full moon or film hatchlings leaving the nest, the [COOLPIX P1000] is for you. With an incredible Zoomrange from wide-angle to super-telephoto, you have the freedom to capture the entire scene or zoom in on the smallest details. The compact megazoom weighs less than a quarter of a digital SLR with a super-telephoto lens mounted and comparable focal length, making it ideal for hiking or traveling."
