The S5M2 is based on a newly developed full-frame 24-megapixel CMOS sensor and an image processor that is also new, developed as part of the L² technology partnership between LEICA and LUMIX. For the first time, the sensor in the LUMIX system supports phase detection AF in addition to contrast-based AF, combining both focusing methods to create a new hybrid phase detection AF. The use of three aspherical lenses enables both high imaging performance and an attractive bokeh effect with smooth sharpness-blur transitions. The ED lens, in turn, effectively suppresses chromatic aberration. Finally, the nine circular aperture blades ensure particularly round imaging of point light sources
