The Pentax K-1 is a 35mm full-frame camera with superb image quality and a weatherproof body, and comes with a powerful Zoom.
The new flagship of the PENTAX K series in the PENTAX 35 mm full-frame SLR system
RICOH IMAGING presents the new PENTAX K-1, the first PENTAX 35 mm full-frame camera. This combines outstanding image quality and a hitherto unique operating system in a proven weatherproof design.
The PENTAX K-1 represents a new high point in the long PENTAX tradition and reflects decades of experience in camera development in an unparalleled way. With a 36.4-megapixel CMOS sensor in 35mm full-frame format, many and in some cases completely new features to enhance image quality and ease of use, and a rugged body design, the PENTAX K-1 was developed to provide professional photographers and photo enthusiasts with a versatile and reliable tool.
As the new flagship of the PENTAX K series, the PENTAX K-1 features a 35.9 x 24 mm CMOS sensor with an effective resolution of 36.4 megapixels. The PENTAX Imaging Technology specially developed for this camera guarantees the finest resolution images with a wide contrast range - even in high sensitivity ranges. Thanks to the 35 mm sensor, this camera allows creative use of the depth of field familiar from KB photography. To further support this, a special correction function causes diffraction blur to be minimized.
The camera features a body-integrated Shake Reduction System, which PENTAX cameras have been equipped with since the beginning of digital camera production. In the PENTAX K-1, a 5-axis system is used for the first time to prevent camera shake. It now offers exposure reliability of up to 5 f-stops. In addition, the moving sensor unit also serves as a simulator for the AA filter, which is no longer used, to prevent the moiré effect, as well as for the "Pixel Shift Resolution" - a function for optimized use of the Bayer RGB sensor, which enables particularly detailed resolution through pixel shifting.
In addition, the PENTAX K-1 places particular emphasis on optimal and intuitive camera operation. The compact body of the PENTAX K-1 features an innovative and unique display. The special design allows the display to be tilted not only upwards by 90 degrees, but also in all other directions by 35 or 45 degrees. The display always remains in the optical axis, making it easier to work in macro photography in particular. Another novelty becomes visible when the illumination button is pressed. Not only is the status display on the top of the camera illuminated, as usual, but several LEDs illuminate the rear control panel, the camera bayonet, the SD card slot and the remote release socket. This means that K-1 photographers no longer need the often cumbersome headlamp, and the camera's unique control system offers a high level of "usability" even in the dark. The new "Smart Function System" also ties in with this. Two additional dials on the top of the camera simplify the operation of important functions many times over. The ability to customize many buttons, dials and menu functions in the Quick Menu also makes the camera uniquely practical. Last but not least, five user program slots make the camera a tool for all those who, in addition to a classic and ergonomic housing design, need a camera that is quick and easy to use - in other words, a classic SLR camera for everyday use.
But to ensure that the PENTAX K-1 can work reliably in a wide variety of shooting situations and under the toughest conditions, the camera has a weatherproof housing design that has already proven itself in many PENTAX cameras. For example, 87 seals provide reliable protection against splash water and dust.
Traditionally, the PENTAX K-1 features the PENTAX K bayonet. The D FA series is optimally adapted to the requirements of a 35 mm full-frame camera. From this series, 12 PENTAX lenses are already available in the focal length range of 15 mm - 450 mm. But older lenses can also be used (also via adapter).
incl. lens D-FA 28-105 F3.5-5.6
RICOH IMAGING introduces the HD PENTAX-D FA 28-105mm F3.5~5.6 ED DC WR, a compact and lightweight standard Zoom lens with high resolving power and universal use characteristics for the 35 mm full-frame image circle.
With a very versatile focal length range, this standard Zoom lens is ideal for everyday use on the new 35 mm full-frame PENTAX K-1 camera and offers many other first-class features in return.
With the new HD PENTAX-D FA 28-105mm F3.5~5.6 ED DC WR, twelve lenses from the FA or D FA series are now available for the 35 mm full-frame system.
Standard Zoom lens with wide focal length range
The 28-105mm standard Zoom lens covers the most commonly used focal length range for everyday photographer use. Optimum image quality is achieved by integrating the latest optical elements and high-performance coatings. The lightweight and compact body as well as the excellent price/performance ratio make this lens a perfect and high-quality standard lens for the PENTAX K-1.
Sophisticated lens construction
The lens construction of 15 elements in 11 groups includes two aspherical elements as well as one ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) and one AD (Anomalous Dispersion) element each. This combination ensures the finest resolution images with minimal chromatic and spherical aberrations as well as uniform illumination all the way to the edges of the image and is optimally matched with the 36.4 megapixel
35 mm full-frame sensor of the PENTAX K-1. The nine rounded aperture blades ensure an even and soft bokeh. In addition, this design avoids the elongated reproduction of point light sources.
Weatherproof design
The most interesting shots are always taken where the camera and lens are better left wrapped up. However, eight special seals effectively prevent dust and moisture from penetrating the lens, so that in combination with the PENTAX SLR cameras, which are also weatherproof, the lens is ideally equipped for use in rain, snow or on stormy days at the seaside.
HD coating for optimum light transmission and minimum reflection
The lens elements of this lens feature the multi-layer HD (High Definition) coating developed by PENTAX, which offers significantly higher light transmission with low reflection compared to conventional coatings. This enables maximum contrast and sharpness without flare and ghosting even in difficult conditions such as backlighting.
SP coating to prevent front lenscontamination
In addition to HD coating, the front lens of the lens is equipped with SP (Super Protect) coating, which protects against grease or water and simplifies cleaning.
Quick Shift for fast switching between autofocus and manual focus
Focusing is fast and reliable using a DC motor. Effortless focus correction is possible via the Quick Shift focus system. This allows manual correction directly after automatic focusing, without switching.
Lens compatibility
RICOH IMAGING currently offers three lens series for the PENTAX system.
The HD PENTAX-D FA 28-105mm F3.5~5.6 ED DC WR lens can be used on all PENTAX K series cameras without any problems. Here it offers an effective focal length of
43 - 161 mm converted to the 35 mm format.
