Robust all-weather SLR with 16 megapixels, Full HD video, 3" display, CMOS sensor and flexible Tamron lens that impresses with its first-class optics.
Like its successful predecessor K-30, the outdoor SLR camera PENTAX K-50 is characterized by extreme practicality. Inside, a high-strength stainless steel chassis protects the sophisticated electronics and provides stable support. The housing itself is all-around weatherproof and sealed against harmful external influences*: 81 seals effectively prevent the penetration of water, snow or sand and dust particles.
The standard and telephoto zoom lenses offered in the kit are also effectively protected against the ingress of moisture or dust by seals. That's why the PENTAX K-50, with its combination of sophisticated technology, sporty, functional design and ergonomic ruggedness, delivers perfect image quality at all times and even under adverse outdoor conditions, such as rain, fog or frost.

When PENTAX asked for improvement requests for the K-30, only a more classic housing design and higher sensor sensitivity were desired. This has now been implemented with the K-50: The body, still compact and light despite all its stability, has been modified and now fits even better in the hand.
The desire for higher sensitivity has also been realized: With a maximum sensitivity of ISO 51200, the K-50 enables impressive nighttime snapshots even without a tripod. Disturbing image noise is kept within limits. The CMOS sensor (APS-C) delivers extremely detailed digital images (16.28 megapixels rms) and impresses with natural color reproduction, even at a speed of 6 frames per second if required.
The powerful PRIME M imaging processor records video in outstanding Full HD quality at 1,920 x 1,080 pixels at 30 frames per second.
The 3D-SR (Shake Reduction) image stabilizer developed by PENTAX effectively reduces blurring caused by camera shake and guarantees sharp images even under difficult shooting conditions, such as telephoto photography or shooting in the dark without a supplemental flash. This innovative SR mechanism is integrated into the body and therefore works lens-independently with all attached lenses.
The SAFOX IXi+ autofocus module guarantees fast-response, high-precision autofocus operation at all times. For optimum measurement accuracy under all conditions, the K-50 uses a special diffractive lens. It compensates for the harmful influence of different chromatic aberrations of individual lenses. In poorly lit shooting situations, a metering beam assists the AF system.
The glass prism viewfinder in the K-50 displays nearly 100% of the field of view, showing a clear, undistorted view of the subject in all lighting conditions. Alternatively, the LCD monitor, with its large 7.6cm diagonal screen size and high 921,000 pixel resolution, delivers a natural, smooth Live View image. In addition, three different options can be superimposed on the K-50's monitor to help with image composition, including the golden ratio, which ensures particularly harmonious image compositions.
When photographing children, sporting events or animals in the wild, fractions of a second count. With the K-50's continuous shooting function, you won't miss a scene: it allows photographers to reliably capture fast-moving subjects in a burst at a maximum speed of up to 6 frames per second.
Despite its compact body, which is smaller and lighter than that of other mid-range models, the K-50 incorporates a glass prism viewfinder that displays nearly 100% of the field of view at approximately 0.92x magnification (50mm f/1.4 lens at infinity setting). It therefore displays the entire field of view exactly as it will be seen later in the shot. This makes it easier to focus and select the optimum image section.
The optical viewfinder provides a clear, undistorted view of the subject in all lighting conditions without any time delays or parallax errors. In this way, the PENTAX K-50 efficiently and reliably supports demanding photographic challenges such as architectural or landscape photography that require accurate framing, or sports photography where pressing the shutter button at the perfect moment is essential.
The K-50 allows users to quickly and easily add their own touch to images with the Custom Image function. There are 11 color effects available, including the popular Bleach Bypass, often used in feature films (looks as if the color and black-and-white versions of a photo have been copied on top of each other), or Cross Development for imaginatively distorted color effects.
There's also a selection of 19 unique digital filters. These include the Miniature filter, which transforms normal everyday scenes into an image full of miniature models. These filters add distinctive visual effects to your own shots and produce creative, artistic images even without a computer. There are no limits to the creative possibilities, as multiple filters can be applied to a single image.
Unleash your digital SLR with this Zoom digital lens. The 18-200mm Di II follows in the tradition of the legendary Tamron Megazoom lenses and has an 11.1x Zoom equivalent focal length range of 28-300mm on analog 35mm cameras. It belongs to the new Tamron Di II generation of lenses designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras with small image sensors.
Thanks to its huge focal length range, the 18-200 mm is suitable as a standard lens for practically all photographic occasions. Especially when traveling, the ultra-compact and lightweight design ensures unadulterated photographic fun. The new high-performance AF 18-200mm Di II lens employs a completely new optical construction that uses XR (Extra Refractive Index) glass in an innovative way to optimize the distribution of optical power throughout the focal length range.
This design reduces various aberrations to the absolute minimum while allowing for a much more compact design. In addition, three hybrid aspherical elements and two LD (low dispersion) elements are used to compensate for chromatic aberration on the axis and at the edges of the image. This factor is particularly important for high quality in digital photography. The result is a versatile Zoomlens with outstanding optical quality. It also achieves a magnification of 1:3.7, making it suitable for macro shooting. The closest focusing distance is 45cm.
