Energy for digital cameras - Everything you need to power your camera

A camera can be as high-quality, modern and technically up-to-date as it is, without the appropriate energy supply it would be worth nothing. Modern digital compact, system and SLR cameras in particular often have very high energy requirements. This is simply because they are equipped with more and more functions and extras - such as WLAN or automatic image processing algorithms - which naturally drive up power consumption again. This makes it all the more important to equip these cameras with high-quality, high-performance energy storage devices, for which you have various options to choose from.

For this reason, we have created various sections for you in this category, where you will find all the accessories you need to power your camera. The most common energy sources for digital cameras are certainly rechargeable batteries. A distinction is made between rechargeable batteries of the type AA or AAA and special rechargeable batteries for the respective camera models. The latter are then further subdivided into original and third-party rechargeable batteries. However, batteries are also occasionally used in digital cameras, as they are inexpensive to buy and can be easily purchased anywhere in the world.

Ambitious hobby, experienced professional and, of course, professional photographers also like to use battery grips to power their digital SLR cameras. These are in turn powered by several rechargeable batteries or batteries and are much more powerful than a single camera battery. They also have a few other advantages. You can read about these in detail in the lower section of our website. There you will also find some arguments in favour of using rechargeable batteries instead of normal batteries and you can read in which cases batteries are still a good choice. You also have the opportunity to find out more about our chargers and power supplies.

Products for the power supply of your digital camera

In our assortment you will find many different products in the area of power supply for your digital camera, such as:

  • Batteries
  • Accumulators
  • Battery handles
  • Chargers and mains adapters
  • Further accessories

In the following you can get an overview of the individual categories and the products they contain.

Batteries

Some camera models can still be operated with normal batteries. However, this type of power supply actually only makes sense if you use your camera only rarely. As a rule of thumb, as soon as you have to replace the batteries once a month, it is a good idea to switch to rechargeable batteries - both from an economic point of view and for environmental reasons. However, if this is not the case, batteries are also a good choice. They are uncomplicated to use and relatively inexpensive. For a long life, however, you should use high-quality batteries such as those in our range.

Batteries

The energy storage device most often used to power digital cameras is clearly the rechargeable battery. It has many advantages, especially compared to batteries:

  • Rechargeable
  • Environmentally friendly
  • More economical in the long run
  • Comfortable to use
  • High capacity

So if you choose to power your camera with rechargeable batteries, you benefit in many ways. You can simply recharge the batteries when they are empty and get as many spare batteries as you like, which you can carry charged in your luggage and use when needed. The purchase price of rechargeable batteries is higher than that of batteries, but nevertheless photographers who use their camera often and with pleasure will find that rechargeable batteries are cheaper in the long run. In addition, rechargeable batteries often have a higher capacity than batteries, so you can take more photos with them. Of course, you also protect the environment if you don't constantly dispose of batteries, but simply recharge them.

Furthermore, there are also camera models that don't work with normal batteries at all. They are equipped by the manufacturer with a special type of rechargeable battery that is supposed to ensure a particularly long runtime. Then you don't need to think about using batteries instead. Instead, there is another decision to make: If you do not want to do without a second battery, should it be an original battery or a cheaper replica battery from a third-party manufacturer? Both options have advantages and disadvantages. Please take a closer look at our battery range. There you will also find a comparison of the most important advantages and disadvantages of original and third-party batteries.

Battery handles

So-called battery handles or battery grips are mainly used by professional and working photographers. They have significantly more power than a single battery. This generally manifests itself in a runtime that is many times longer than without the use of a battery grip. In addition, battery grips provide faster continuous shooting rates on some models. With a battery grip on your SLR camera, you are more independent from the mains and save yourself frequent battery changes. Battery grips can be used with either one or two rechargeable batteries or with AA batteries. Many photographers who take their pictures with an SLR camera also appreciate the battery handle because it has a better feel. Often there is also a second shutter release button, so that the camera can be operated just as well in portrait format as in landscape format. Depending on the camera type and battery grip, there are also further controls, such as for the following functions:

  • Aperture and exposure compensation
  • Exposure and flash exposure metering
  • Selecting the metering field for the autofocus
  • Magnifying or reducing the image display

This is why battery grips prove to be very practical for photographers with high demands, especially in portrait format photography.

Chargers, mains adapters and other accessories

When you buy a new digital camera, you usually get the matching charger or mains adapter directly with it. But even such a charger is not made to last forever, so it is possible that it will fail sooner or later. In this case, you can buy an adequate replacement from us in the corresponding categories. We offer original chargers for specific camera and battery types as well as universal chargers that can charge several different batteries. All chargers in our range charge your batteries safely and gently. For this purpose, they are equipped with all common functions such as a charge level monitor and an overcharge protection. In addition, you will find further accessories for your camera power supply here with us. These include, for example, battery boxes for storing your batteries or rechargeable batteries, power banks for convenient power supply even without a socket nearby, as well as special adapters.
