Memory cards have become an indispensable part of the world of digital photography. They replace analog film and offer plenty of space for your photos and videos.
- M MicroSD and SD cards are used in numerous devices for home users. They are especially compatible with digital cameras and cell phones. SD cards are further divided into SDHC cards (up to 32 GB) and SDXC cards (over 32 GB) based on their capacity.
- CompactFlash cards (CF cards) now cover a wide range of capacities and speeds. They are mainly used in professional photography. CFast cards and CFexpress cards (newer CF standard card) have particularly high speeds and are thus also just suitable for video recordings (also in 4K) and fast continuous shooting.
- XQD cards can be understood as the successor of CompactFlash memory cards (CF) and they usually have very high (read and write) speeds.
In terms of price, there are almost no differences between microSD and SD cards, especially for storage capacities of 16 and 32 gigabytes. Only from 64 gigabytes, microSD cards are currently still significantly more expensive than SD cards.
You pay a comparatively high price for CF cards. Models with 64 gigabytes cost from 46 euros, variants with 128 gigabytes from 140 euros, and cards with 256 gigabytes cost over 200 euros. However, the high price for CF cards is often worth it: They are mechanically more robust and accordingly more durable.
