Whether you use an analogue or digital camera: You need the right lenses. But these, of course, need to be protected. Be it from fingerprints, dirt or irreversible scratches. As a rule, the different lenses come with matching caps, but these are usually made of plastic and therefore easily breakable - or sometimes get lost during an extensive hiking tour.
To make sure you don't have to do without protection nevertheless, you can buy various lens caps for all common lenses at Foto Erhardt.
If you always want high-quality photos that are not affected by contamination of the lens, you should not do without the lens cap. A lens, if it is an extensively equipped model for an SLR camera, usually has its price. It is all the more annoying when the photos are not successful because the lens is dirty or even scratched. For little money, you can get various caps that offer perfect protection. The caps are robustly made and mostly consist of sturdy plastic. They are waterproof and normally also protect against moisture.
Depending on the model, the cap is either plugged or screwed onto the lens. Some lens caps not only protect the lens, but even have interesting additional functions, such as white balance. To prevent you from losing the lens caps, some models also have a safety cord.
In addition to conventional lens caps, which are primarily designed to protect the lens, there are also so-called rear caps. As the name suggests, these are attached to the rear end of the lens when the lens is not in use. This prevents dirt, such as dust or sand, from getting into the cavities of the lens.
If you use several lenses and therefore several caps, it is important to store the lens caps safely. For this purpose, there are, for example, various holders that can be worn as a belt on the body. This way you always have the caps at hand in case it suddenly starts to rain. There are also smaller holders that can be attached directly to the camera strap.
When buying a lens cap, the most important thing is that it has the right diameter so that it actually fits on the lens. In addition, you should of course pay attention to the type of cap. A screw cap will unfortunately not fit on a lens with a pressure cap - even if the diameter is right.
To be on the safe side, you should not mix brands. It is best to buy the lens cap of the brand of your lens. In addition, we recommend both front and rear caps. This protects the lens on both sides, especially when it is not in use.
Are you travelling and want to take a lot of photos? Then you will probably change lenses very often. Especially in such situations, a suitable shutter is indispensable, as it can quickly get dirty when you change lenses. Fingerprints are the least of your worries. As a general rule, we therefore recommend that you do not change the lens until the front cap has been attached.
