In contrast to its predecessor, the Ricoh Theta SC2 has made significant technical improvements. Photos are taken by the THETA SC2 with a resolution of 14 megapixels and videos with a 4K resolution. The new face detection now turns the camera into an ultimate selfie camera. Control has been further simplified with the integrated OLED display and with the THETA app on the smartphone, the small camera additionally becomes a "creative workshop".

Sophisticated camera technology for full-spherical 360-degree images and videos

In principle, the technical specifications should play a rather subordinate role for an entry-level model like the Theta SC2. But for a full-spherical camera like this one, they are an essential part of achieving the performance that makes the camera so easy to use.

The integrated face detection ensures optimized exposure and automatically makes compensating corrections to the skin when a human face is detected. Night View

With PRESET NIGHT VIEW, which is also new, various parameters are intelligently combined for optimum image composition. Noise reduction together with automatic compensation in the dynamic range and - if required - face detection ensure successful and contrast-enhanced night shots.

Lens-by-Lens Exposure

Face detection is also activated for the PRESET LENS BY LENS. However, the main players of this PRESET function are the independent exposure control and the white balance adjustment. In combination, these enable a more differentiated shot - especially in backlit situations.

Simple operation with integrated fun factor

The simpler the operation, the more fun it is to use. Thanks to its compactness and ease of use, the Theta SC2 will soon belong in every pocket just like the smartphone. Two lenses for image capture, four function buttons for operation, the shutter release button, and a status OLED display for checking battery level or shooting mode - that's all it takes to create unique, full-spherical shots on the fly, anytime.
The function keys of the Theta SC2 are just as quickly explained: turn on/off, select between video or photo mode, establish the connection to the smartphone and activate the self-timer. This makes taking photos and videos child's play and requires no additional accessories.

The smartphone as a creative workshop

A smartphone is required to take full advantage of the control convenience and all functions of the Theta SC2. The Theta and Theta+ apps can be used not only to customize image composition or exposure control, but also to transfer images, edit them and later share them effortlessly on social networks. The available range of functions depends on the operating system and version number. Among other things, full-spherical video sections can be created for normal perspectives and even small "subscreens" can be edited in videos - or very simple things like stickers or texts can be inserted.

Share experiences in live and 360° with friends and acquaintances

Two communication channels are available for the connection between Theta SC2 and smartphone. Via Bluetooth TM, camera settings can be made, the recording position can be saved and the shutter can be released. Live View and image transmission are also available via WLAN.

Without any prior knowledge of image composition or exposure control, anyone can take photos or videos right from the start and share them with friends on the TV at home, on the smartphone or in social media, such as FacebookTM or YouTubeTM. There are no (spherical) limits to creativity.
