GNDs are used (unlike normal ND filters) for subjects where the brightness conditions have a certain gradient and therefore require a different exposure for an evenly exposed image. A classic application for a Hard GND8 is, for example, a sunset on the beach, where the foreground does not need to be darkened at all, but the background is still very bright due to the sun and therefore needs to be darkened. The Hard GND8 compensates for such scenarios and

is available in the size 100 x 150 millimetres (100 mm filter holder system). It has a density of 0.9 and 3 stops. One stop means that the amount of light falling on the sensor is reduced by one f-stop at a time.
