Excellent wideangle lens for a bargain price
The Irix 11 mm f4 Firefly manual lens comes in an attractive metal box, including a cloth bag with a hard surface to protect the lens and a second bayonet cap. The front plastic cap covers the fixed petal lens hood. The lens is of high-quality glass, with Neutrino coatings for better contrast, and solid construction, weighing 730 grams and giving the impression of reliability. The focus ring has excellent resistance, slides smoothly, and has a good rubberized perforated structure so your fingers do not slip. A detail that delighted me was the protrusion on the ring, which makes it easy to control the focus setting in the dark, because when the infinity mark is aligned, there is a slight click, so you don't have to worry about depth of field. This ultra-wide-angle lens has a pronounced vignetting effect a slightly smaller effect of chromatic aberration at the edges and a smaller effect of barrel distortion. Lightroom or DXO ViewPoint profile will solve this problem. Sharpness is pronounced at f 8/ f/11 f/13. I took the first few shots with open apertures of f/4, f/5.6, and f/6.3 and I was not satisfied with the sharpness at the edges, which is normal for such large apertures. With an 11 mm lens, which covers an angle of 126 degrees, you need to be careful when pointing it towards the sun, because ghosting and flare effects appear.I tried it on a Nikon Z6 - 24MP and a Nikon Z7 II - 45MP. The lens seems to work better on higher-megapixel bodies. I ordered some very cheap gel ND filters from the Irix website, the best of which for me was the ND16. They are 3x3cm gelatin filters that will do the job but are a hassle to remove from the rear bayonet slot. All in all, the Irix 11mm f4 Firefly is an excellent purchase due to its mechanical and optical quality, and most of all its price compared to the competition. In addition, photo equipment ordered from Foto Erhardt arrives quickly and at great prices.
