Details

The compact PENTAX smc DA 50 mm /1.8 is a perfect match for all digital SLR and system cameras with K bayonet. The interesting focal length of 77 mm (converted to 35 mm 35 mm format) covers a wide range of uses from normal everyday photography to spontaneous snapshots to still lifes Í and is particularly suitable for portraits.

The inexpensive DA 50mm/1.8 offers a very high speed. It therefore allows shorter exposure times, delivering well-lit, sharp images even at dusk or in other shooting situations with poor lighting conditions.

Excellent image quality

In developing the digital lens, PENTAX used its decades of experience in developing optical equipment and products to achieve exceptional sharpness and imaging performance with the DA 50 mm/1.8. The development engineers paid particular attention to reducing aberrations such as astigmatism.

Fixed focal length lens in the light telephoto range

On SLR cameras with PENTAX K bayonet, this lens offers a focal length of approx. 77 mm (converted to 35 mm 35 mm format). Thanks to the moderate telephoto focal length and the enormous latitude in depth of field, the DA 50 mm/1.8 is not only suitable as an everyday and standard lens, but also solves special tasks such as portrait photos, inconspicuous snapshots or shots where the subject delineation is to be made by depth of field.

With a maximum aperture of 1:1.8, the DA 50 mm/1.8 gives the photographer additional creative possibilities: Even in unfavorable lighting conditions, such as indoor shots, overcast skies or at dusk, the large aperture still allows for fast shutter speeds and thus blur-free images, even without a conspicuous flash or costly additional lighting.

In addition, the depth of field can be limited to a very narrow range at maximum aperture. This means that the focused subject always remains razor-sharp, while the image foreground and background are blurred. This stylistic device, which is often used for portraits, produces particularly impressive results with the DA 50mm f/1.8. This is because PENTAX calculated and shaped the individual blades of the aperture so that the aperture is not polygonal, but always perfectly round. Contours and light reflections outside the plane of focus are thus given a round shape and appear particularly harmonious. This makes for a very natural, beautiful bokeh.

Compact, weight-saving design

The DA 50mm f/1.8 perfectly matches the design of high-quality camera bodies. It is so solidly built that it can easily serve as a lightweight telephoto standard lens in everyday use. With a length of just 38.5 millimeters and a weight of only 122 grams, it is so small and light that it can still find a place in a jacket pocket or photo backpack as a supplementary lens on any excursion.

Pentax SP Couting

The front lens of the DA 50mm f/1.8 is coated with PENTAX Original SPC (Super Protect Coating). This protective coating not only repels dust, water and grease, but also facilitates gentle cleaning should a fingerprint ever stray onto the front lens.

The SP coating is applied in addition to the PENTAX smc coating, which is applied to all glass/air surfaces.
