With this standard lens, you will experience imaging quality at the highest level.
The fast standard lens 50mm F1.4 DG HSM Art delivers the highest imaging performance for a new era of outstanding image quality. Its excellent optical performance makes it the ultimate "always with you" lens.
This lens is a symbol of SIGMA quality and the ideal standard lens. It delivers outstanding performance and fulfills the concept of our Art product line to the highest degree. It provides incredibly balanced images with a wonderful bokeh and sets a new benchmark for fast standard lenses.
By applying all the experience and latest design technologies gained from past developments, it effectively corrects aberrations and achieves high resolution and amazing imaging performance, even at the edges of the image.
High resolution with wonderful bokeh
While a high resolution is required for the subject in focus, a beautiful bokeh for a smooth transition of focus is desired outside the focal plane. Imaging errors such as sagittal coma and color distortions, which influence the image quality, are effectively corrected. High-resolution reproduction without blurring is achieved even at open aperture. By reducing vignetting to a minimum and preventing color fringing in front of and behind the point of focus, a very natural bokeh is achieved.
Excellent correction of sagittal coma
Ideally, a fast standard lens already has a high imaging performance across the entire image area at open aperture. The bright pressed aspherical glass lens elements, for example, ensure excellent correction of sagittal coma. Due to the reduced distortion of point light sources at the edges of the image, it is perfect for astrophotography and available light. It also achieves an attractive bokeh for portraits and indoor shots.
Correction of longitudinal color errors
SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements are used to counter longitudinal color errors, which are difficult to correct even during image processing, and ensure high image quality across the entire focus range. As a result, the lens achieves sharp and high-contrast image reproduction.
Minimized distortion
It is not possible to compensate for distortion simply by changing the aperture values. The development phase of the lens was therefore already decisive in minimizing distortion. In the "SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG HSM", each glass element was precisely positioned for optimized force distribution in order to reduce distortion to a minimum.
High peripheral illumination
The lens offers very even illumination even at the edges of the image, which can otherwise be a problem with optical systems with a large diameter. The positioning of large elements in the front lens group improves efficiency when the aperture is open. This helps to minimize vignetting and ensures the utmost clarity across the entire field of view.
Reflection and ghost elimination design
From the very beginning of the lens design process, susceptibility to reflections and ghosting is studied to achieve an optical design that is resistant to even strong backlighting. The Super Multi-Layer Coating (SML) reduces flare and ghosting and delivers sharp, high-contrast images, even in backlit conditions.
Close focusing distance of 40cm
The lens incorporates a floating system that adjusts the distances between the lens groups during focusing, minimizing the required lens movements. This enables a close focusing distance of 40cm and a maximum magnification of 1:5.6. This also results in fewer aberrations at the individual shooting distances, which means that the lens delivers high imaging performance over the entire focal range.
Fast focusing
The Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) ensures a quiet and very fast AF function. The improved AF algorithm achieves smoother AF. Manual intervention is also possible at any time, allowing sensitive focus adjustment by simply turning the focus ring.
Round aperture
The almost round aperture consists of 9 aperture blades and ensures a very pleasant bokeh outside the focal plane of the image.
Brass bayonet
The lens is equipped with a solid and precise brass bayonet. The special treatment of the surface to reinforce the strength enables long-lasting use.
