When taking photos, you use a flash for a good picture in dark ambient light. For a good video, you need a video light for the same reason, otherwise the footage will also be too dark. Modern digital cameras usually have a built-in flash. With camcorders, it is not always built in. For cameras, there are external flash units to improve the effect even more.
