Fujifilm GFX 100S
Technologically, the FUJIFILM GFX100S builds on the FUJIFILM GFX100 and its concept of a compact, lightweight digital camera with a large-format sensor. Thanks to its handy design and uncompromising performance, the GFX100S can be used in situations previously reserved exclusively for cameras with smaller sensors.
Weighing only 900 grams, the GFX100S is comparable in size to most "full frame" cameras. Yet it features a large-format 102-megapixel sensor, built-in five-axis image stabilization over 6.0 EV stops, fast and precise autofocus, and legendary FUJIFILM color technology. In sum, this makes the GFX100S the ultimate tool for creative photographers and videographers.
102-megapixel sensor for unprecedented image quality
The FUJIFILM GFX100S has a rear-exposed 102-megapixel image sensor with a large-format diagonal of 55mm. It is about 1.7 times larger than a conventional 35mm ("full-frame") sensor, which allows for a very shallow depth of field and precise separation of focus and blur. The camera also offers impressive dynamic range, precise color reproduction and outstanding high-ISO capabilities.
For more than 86 years, the FUJIFILM name has been synonymous with unparalleled image quality. Many iconic photos and films have been created on FUJIFILM stock, prized for its distinctive color reproduction by users around the world. With the 19 film simulations of the FUJIFILM GFX100S, the legendary FUJIFILM colors are available practically at the touch of a button. For the first time, the camera can use the new film simulation "Nostalgic Negative", which reproduces the look of New American Color Photography from the 1970s. Images captured with this feature are characterized by soft colors and great detail. Warm highlights and saturated depths lend a lyrical mood to the shots.
Fast autofocus down to -5.5 EV
Almost the entire area of the GFX100S's large-format image sensor is occupied by phase-aperture AF pixels. Unlike conventional medium-format cameras, the GFX100S therefore has powerful auto-focusing capabilities and quickly focuses on the subject up to 0.18 seconds, even at low brightness levels of -5.5 EV. For moving subjects, X-Processor 4 and a new AF algorithm enable precise tracking AF with intelligent face and eye detection.
Built-in five-axis image stabilization
The GFX100S features an upgraded five-axis image stabilization system (IBIS) that makes sharp freehand shooting with ultra-high-resolution cameras much easier. Compared to the GFX100, the IBIS unit of the GFX100S is about 20 percent smaller and 10 percent lighter, but despite this smaller size, it achieves compensation of 6 EV steps according to CIPA standards. Compared to the GFX100, this represents an improvement of 0.5 EV stops.
Compact and weatherproof camera body
The FUJIFILM GFX100S weighs only 900 grams, making it exceptionally light for a camera with a large-format sensor. Measuring 15 cm x 10.4 cm x 8.7 cm (WxHxD), it is comparable in size to many 35mm cameras, even though its body houses a 102-megapixel sensor that is almost twice as large. The compact dimensions were made possible by the new IBIS unit, a revised shutter mechanism, and a smaller but powerful lithium-ion battery. In direct comparison with the GFX100, the new GFX100S is about 6 cm smaller and 500 g lighter. The sturdy and ergonomic handgrip ensures optimally balanced handling and fatigue-free operation of the camera even during long-duration assignments.
The GFX100S is protected against splash water and dust and can be used in low temperatures down to minus 10 degrees Celsius. The rugged magnesium body is additionally reinforced around the bayonet mount to ensure the best possible stability when using larger and heavier lenses.
High-resolution 4K video with a medium-format look
The GFX100S stores high-resolution 4K/30p motion images at 400 M/bit in 10-bit 4:2:0 F-Log format directly on the memory card or as 12-bit 4:2:2 ProRes RAW via HDMI on an external recorder. The large-format sensor not only enables an attractive cinema look with ultra shallow depth of field, but also a wide dynamic range and impressive high-ISO performance.
Videos can be recorded in the classic widescreen format (16:9) or in the DCI format (17:9) developed for digital cinema. In addition, common compression standards, such as H.264 and H.265, as well as professional log modes, such as Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) and F-Log, are available. In the latter, the video signal is matched to the camera sensor so that the maximum contrast range can be used during post-production, for example during color and brightness correction.
When 4K/30p 12-bit video is saved directly to an Atomos Ninja V monitor recorder via HDMI, it can be output in ProRes RAW data format, allowing maximum flexibility in post-production. Simultaneous output of raw/log material and film simulations is also possible.
Fujifilm Fujinon GF110mmF2 R LM WR
With a focal length of 87mm (equivalent to 35mm format), this fast lens offers a beautiful bokeh effect that makes it ideal for portraiture. The optical construction of 14 elements in nine groups allows for flawless imaging quality. A total of four ED glass elements, which are positioned in front of and behind the aperture, reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations to a minimum. Internal focusing minimizes image errors that usually appear at different focus settings.
The aperture consists of nine rounded diaphragm blades. They form an almost circular aperture, creating a fascinating blur effect in the foreground and background - ideal conditions for expressive photographs that can only be achieved with medium-format lenses.
