With a length of only 23 millimeters*1 and a weight of around 90 grams, the lens is exceptionally compact and lightweight. Its 23mm focal length (35mm equivalent) and high resolution make it the ideal complement to the 40.2-
megapixel "X-Trans CMOS 5 HR" sensor*2.

The versatile standard wide-angle lens is suitable for a wide range of subjects - from everyday scenes and close-ups to landscapes, portraits and still lifes. It combines robust construction, high functionality and impressive image quality in a wide range of situations. The compact shape and
low weight of the lens means that the photographic equipment remains pleasantly light, ideal for spontaneous shots on the move.

Compact and lightweight

The optical construction of the XF23mmF2.8 R WR consists of eight elements in six groups. Two aspherical lenses minimize aberrations from the center to the edge of the image and contribute to impressive sharpness and fine detail.
Despite its high resolution, the lens remains compact, as the lens elements can be made particularly thin thanks to the latest manufacturing technology. The slim lens benefits from precisely manufactured metal components. Weighing just 90 grams and measuring 23 millimetres in length, it is similarly compact to the XF27mmF2.8. Eleven aperture blades create a soft, rounded bokeh that highlights the main subject in an atmospheric way.

Versatile and fast

The minimum distance to the subject is only 20 centimetres, the lens remains pleasantly compact and easy to handle even at this close range. This makes it possible to take pictures even in small spaces - such as still lifes on a table. When focusing, the entire lens group moves, minimizing aberrations and ensuring high image quality right up to the close-up range. A powerful DC motor ensures fast focusing.

Stylish and robust

The XF23mmF2.8 R WR impresses with its stylish, tapered design. The focus ring is sensor-based and enables precise manual focusing with a minimal angle of rotation. Despite the compact design, the focus ring and aperture ring are separated by a fixed intermediate ring and can be conveniently operated independently of each other. The finely ribbed surface ensures a secure grip and makes it easier to change the lens. The lens barrel is dust-proof, splash-proof and fully functional down to minus 10 °C. Nine seals ensure reliable operation even in light rain and dusty environments.
