The 16mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary features a lens construction of 16 elements in 13 groups and is made of high-quality materials. This lens effectively minimizes optical aberrations and delivers excellent resolution even at wide open apertures and across the entire aperture range. The lens design and stepper motor provide smooth autofocus even when shooting video, and the mount is dust- and splash-proofed with a gasket.

Image quality that rivals our Art line lenses

With 16 elements in 13 groups, the optical system features a variety of high-tech and high-end components, including three FLD glass elements, two SLD glass elements and two bare-molded aspherical glass elements. The optical design minimizes optical aberrations and guarantees outstanding resolution even at wide open apertures and across the entire aperture range. In particular, the two aspherical lens elements have ultra-precise surfaces polished to tolerances below ten nanometers. This minimizes the so-called onion ring effect in the bokeh produced by some aspherical elements and ensures clear image quality across the entire frame. In addition, the structure of the optical system gently bends light to minimize sagittal coma and deliver optimal optical performance from the center of the image to the edges. The result is a smooth, round bokeh with even light distribution throughout the shot.

Stepper motor delivers excellent and quiet autofocus

The optical design and stepper motor provide smooth autofocus when shooting video. The lens design supports Fast Hybrid AF for super-fast autofocus. Face detection AF keeps autofocus on the face even when the subject is moving.

Dust- and splash-proof construction.

The mount features a special seal that makes the lens an excellent choice for shooting in a wide range of conditions.
