Blackmagic PYXIS 6K EF
Designed for maximum versatility
Multiple mounting points and side plates for accessories allow you to easily equip the Blackmagic PYXIS according to your requirements. The compact body of the PYXIS is precision-machined from aerospace-grade aluminum and is very robust and lightweight. This means that PYXIS can be easily attached to various camera mounts such as cranes, gimbals or drones. There are 1/4 and 3/8 inch threaded holes on the top and bottom of the housing. In addition, various side plates are available for the Blackmagic PYXIS, which open up further possibilities for attaching accessories such as handles, microphones or even SSDs. All this enables you to put together a robust and reliable camera for every production.
With digital film to the Hollywood look
Blackmagic PYXIS models have all the professional features for the production of feature films, documentaries and television programs. You can now achieve the same high quality for immersive content for social media, YouTube videos and the like. Benefit from the same features found on expensive digital film cameras. Capture richer colors, more detail and a wider dynamic range between the brightest highlights and the darkest shadows. This gives feature films their fantastic look. And you can now achieve the same high-end production values for any type of project. Now you can even shoot low-budget indie films, TV commercials and corporate films with large format digital film!
Blackmagic PYXIS models feature a large full-frame sensor with a native resolution of 6048 x 4032 pixels. The sensor is almost three times the size of a Super 35 sensor. It allows you to shoot with a shallow depth of field and anamorphic lenses without a crop factor for real cinematic looks. Whether you are filming in bright sunlight or almost in the dark, the dynamic range of 13 f-stops with dual native basic sensitivities of the sensor up to ISO 25,600 delivers brilliant, low-noise images in all lighting conditions. Film at up to 36 fps at full sensor resolution or at 120 fps in crop mode. Blackmagic color processing paired with this fantastic sensor lets you use the same imaging technology as high-end digital film cameras.
The flexibility of full frame
The large full-frame sensor of the Blackmagic PYXIS lets you work with various film formats and aspect ratios without compromising quality. Filming with the full sensor surface gives you unique open-gate images in a 3:2 ratio that can be re-framed in post-production. The large sensor also lets you work in true anamorphic 6:5 ratio without cropping. This results in cinematic images in widescreen format with more detail and higher resolution than previously possible. With the classically sized Super 35 window on the sensor, you can create an instant close-up version of your shot that fits seamlessly into open-gate footage. All this gives you the tools to create distinctive cinematic content of the highest quality!
Shoot beautiful high dynamic range images
The range between the brightest and darkest parts of an image is called dynamic range. It is calculated in f-stops. Blackmagic PYXIS have an impressive dynamic range of 13 f-stops. This means that they retain more detail in the brightest and darkest areas of an image than simple video cameras. For example, you can set the exposure for an indoor scene such as a café and even capture details in areas lit from outside through the window. You achieve more color variety than in the standard DCI-P3 color space used for feature films. Another plus: the cameras come with DaVinci Resolve Studio. This gives you complete creative freedom with the option of adjusting the exposure and using restoration tools during colour grading.
With digital film, the ISO setting determines the light sensitivity of the image sensor. The higher the ISO value, the higher the light sensitivity. Night shots can then even be captured in natural light! Blackmagic PYXIS have a dual native mode with ISO sensitivities up to 25,600 and are optimized to reduce film grain and image noise while making full use of the sensor's dynamic range. The sensor's native base sensitivity of ISO 400 is ideal for scenes with on-set lighting. The secondary high-base ISO sensitivity of 3200 is perfect in sparsely lit environments. When adjusting the ISO setting, the gain is set automatically. This means you can capture great images even when you're in a hurry and the lighting is off.
A wide range of resolutions and frame rates
Blackmagic PYXIS films in all standard resolutions and frame rates from HD to DCI 4K and even 6K. You can even shoot still images at 24.6 megapixels! Blackmagic PYXIS film up to 36 fps with 6048 x 4032 pixels in 3:2 with Open Gate (full sensor area) or 60 fps with 6048 x 2520 in 2.4:1 and 60 fps with 4096 x 2160 in 4K DCI. Higher frame rates of up to 100 fps can be filmed with a cropped sensor at 2112 x 1184 in Super 16. With anamorphic sensors, you can even capture 4.8K footage with 4832 x 4032 at 24 fps in true anamorphic 6:5 ratio. And even shoot in 1080 HD at 120 fps! Blackmagic PYXIS always lets you shoot at the right resolution for the project.
Spacious 4-inch LCD screen
The LCD built into Blackmagic PYXIS is more than just a status display. This high-resolution 4-inch HDR touchscreen is just as suitable for monitoring as it is for viewing shots on set. Its Full HD resolution allows you to accurately frame and focus your settings without having to lug around a bulky monitor. You can even use the LCD as a focusing aid station. With the HDR-capable, 1500 nits bright display, you can frame your settings in all lighting situations, even in bright sunshine. Status and recording parameters, histograms, levels, image border markings and more are displayed as on-screen overlays. To review individual shots, 3D LUTs with the desired color and look can be applied in an instant.
All controls at your
fingertips The logical design of the Blackmagic PYXIS puts key functions such as ISO, white balance and shutter at your fingertips via touchscreen and physical controls. There's even a scroll wheel for quick adjustment of settings. A row of three programmable function buttons saves you the hassle of trawling through on-screen menus for commands. Blackmagic PYXIS have intuitively positioned, easy-to-grip record and still image buttons. There are also function buttons to which you can assign commands for high frame rates, focus, Zoom, false color and more. To prevent accidental changes to settings when the camera is filming or mounted out of reach on a jib, simply lock the controls.
Side plates for flexible rigging
Innovative side plates provide even more options for rigging your camera. The side plate supplied with Blackmagic PYXIS is made from the same aerospace-grade aluminum as the camera body. The plate has two 1/4-inch threaded holes and one 3/8-inch threaded hole for attaching microphones, mounts and other accessories. Alternatively, you can mount the supplied SSD plate to conveniently and securely attach USB-C drives for recordings or even a cell phone for live streaming. The optional rosette plate gives you maximum flexibility. It offers five 1/4-inch and four 3/8-inch threaded holes for accessories and a rosette attachment point for a handle or extension arm.
Postpro-friendly file formats
Blackmagic PYXIS models record in Blackmagic RAW to maintain control over drawing, exposure and color for post-production. The cameras also record HD proxies in H.264 in real time. This makes it easy to share media worldwide in minutes. The highly optimized and multi-threaded processing with Blackmagic RAW takes place across multiple CPU cores and is also GPU-accelerated for Apple Metal, CUDA and OpenCL. As a result, images captured in Blackmagic RAW deliver unprecedented resolution and quality for color grading, keying, compositing, re-cadring, stabilization and tracking in HD, 4K or 6K. Media files are compatible with all operating systems and memory cards and drives can be formatted in HFS+ for Mac and ExFAT for Windows.
Record to CFexpress cards or external hard drives
Blackmagic PYXIS features two CFexpress card recorders and a USB-C expansion port to record directly to an external flash drive or SSD. Because CFexpress cards are significantly more durable and faster than even older storage, they are ideal for recording full-resolution Blackmagic RAW files in 12-bit. Now you can record over an hour of full-resolution 6K images on a single 256GB CFexpress card! Dual CFexpress bays allow uninterrupted recording as the cards are hot-swappable. Their tremendous speed makes CFexpress cards perfect for plugging into your computer and editing directly from there with the included DaVinci Resolve Studio software.
RAW quality at the speed of video
Blackmagic RAW is a revolutionary new format designed to capture and preserve the quality of data from your camera sensor. Blackmagic RAW eliminates quality issues and gives you images with incredible detail and color throughout the entire production pipeline - from camera to editing, color and mastering. Camera settings are saved as metadata. You can specify ISO settings, white balance and exposure in the camera and simply overwrite them later in the edit - without any loss of quality! What's more, Blackmagic RAW files are small, fast and easy to handle. Only Blackmagic RAW gives you the smallest files with the highest quality and fastest performance.
Powered by Blackmagic OS
The advanced Blackmagic OS gives you an intuitive and user-friendly state-of-the-art camera operating system. Blackmagic OS is a truly modern operating system in which all camera functions run independently of each other. This ensures smooth control. What's more, the camera boots up almost immediately. The controls and menus are the same as other Blackmagic Design cameras, so you can easily switch between different models on set. The user interface allows you to adjust settings, add metadata and view recording status with simple tap and swipe gestures. You also have full control over advanced onscreen camera features such as focus and exposure tools, 3D LUTs, HDR, metadata input, timecode, Blackmagic RAW settings and more.
Generation 5 Colorimetry
With the same high-quality fifth generation color processing as the URSA Cine high-end camera, Blackmagic PYXIS delivers even more advanced image quality with outstanding skin tones and true-to-life color reproduction in every shot. It features a new 12-bit dynamic gamma curve designed for more accurate capture of color data in highlights and shadows. This allows you to shoot more beautiful images. Color Science also handles some of the complex image processing of Blackmagic RAW. This preserves the sensor data on color and dynamic range in the metadata for later use in post-production. In post with DaVinci Resolve, this gives you natural images that respond to color adjustments similar to analog film.
Live sync with Blackmagic Cloud and editors
Blackmagic PYXIS models support the creation of a small H.264 proxy file in addition to the original camera media when recording. This means the small proxy file is uploaded to Blackmagic Cloud in seconds and your footage is available back in the studio in real time. The ability to transfer media directly to a DaVinci Resolve media bin is revolutionary. It's never been done before! Wherever editors are working in the world, they have access to the footage. With multiple cameras in use, the new multi-source feature in DaVinci Resolve's editing module now shows you every camera angle in a multi-view view. Blackmagic Cloud revolutionizes global post-pro workflows
Use mobile 5G or 4G smartphone data
When uploading to Blackmagic Cloud, you can connect to the internet using mobile data from an Apple or Android phone. Simply connect the smartphone to the rear USB-C port and the Blackmagic PYXIS will configure it for mobile data. This is possible with all newer 5G and 4G smartphones. You can also establish a connection via wired Ethernet using the camera's Ethernet port. This allows you to send your media to post-production teams around the world while you are shooting, so they can get to work in real time. What's more, onset grading can be done in a grading suite and then synchronized back to DaVinci on set. This truly global solution for post-production works with Blackmagic Cloud and enables great team constellations of creatives.

The two audio sockets allow you to record two separate audio tracks with two microphones without an external mixer
. 3D LUTs made to measure for cinematic looks
In order to preserve the dynamic range, digital film cameras often record in a logarithmic color space. Although this is great in post-production, it results in washed-out, low-contrast images on a screen. 3D LUTs solve this problem because they allow you to apply looks to the screen image. This gives you an immediate impression of how the finished images will look after editing. LUTs are either used temporarily for monitoring or recorded in the Blackmagic RAW files for use in post-production. Blackmagic PYXIS support industry standard 17 and 33 point 3D LUTs. Alternatively, you can work with the integrated LUTs "Extended Video", "Film to Video", "Film to Rec. 2020" and others.
USB-C for external drives and control via Ethernet
Blackmagic PYXIS have an innovative high-speed USB-C expansion port for transfer at speeds of up to 5 Gbps. Most new computers have a USB-C port that even supplies power. By connecting external accessories such as flash drives and high-capacity SSDs, you can achieve significantly longer recording spans. Very practical: you simply connect the external drive to your computer after shooting and start editing and color correction. As this is possible with the same drive, there is no need to copy files. What's more, your camera can be controlled over a network via its internal Ethernet port using secure and user-friendly REST APIs. You can also pull the files from your camera directly over the network.
Integrated SRT and RTMP live streaming
Now you can live stream from the film set Blackmagic PYXIS has a built-in hardware streaming engine that supports RTMP and SRT streaming to YouTube, Facebook, X and other platforms. You have two options for Internet access: connect via Ethernet or use the mobile data of a 4G or 5G smartphone. As the streaming hardware is built into the camera, the stream status and data throughput rates are displayed in the viewfinder and on the LCD. To create a wireless connection back to the studio, you can also stream to a Blackmagic ATEM Streaming Bridge. This H.264 decoder converts the video stream back into a video signal. This allows the entire post-production team to follow the shoot live and in real time!
Professional cameras offer professional features. This includes a timecode input so that your footage can be perfectly synchronized when using multiple cameras. Simply connect an external timecode generator to the BNC timecode input and the camera will automatically synchronize incoming timecode and lock the internal generator. Now the footage from all cameras is provided with the same synchronized timecode every time recording starts and stops. This means that even music festival shoots with several handheld cameras can be realized! Another ingenious feature is that DaVinci Resolve automatically finds and synchronizes the settings of all cameras.
Capture stills with up to 24.6 megapixels
In addition to video, Blackmagic PYXIS also captures still images in full resolution. Simply press the dedicated stills button to capture 24.6 megapixel images. Still images are saved in Blackmagic RAW, giving you very high image quality. Perfect for high-resolution professional photo prints or for post-production in DaVinci Resolve. Still images can be used to track continuity between takes or presented to clients who can't be on set for approval.
Wireless remote control of the camera via Bluetooth
With the camera at the end of a boom or in a hard-to-reach location, you retain full control via Bluetooth from up to ten meters away. The Blackmagic Camera Control App for your iPad or third-party apps such as Bluetooth+ or tRigger are available as downloads for iOS and Android devices. There is even a free SDK with sample code on the Blackmagic Design developer website. It can be used to create your own solutions for remote camera control and digital film boards. So build your own app that allows timecode jam sync and the triggering of recording on several cameras simultaneously. The possibilities are endless!
