The robust D780 offers a fast hybrid AF system specifically for Live View shooting and a fast, powerful autofocus system with phase detection and 51 points for photography through the optical viewfinder. When shooting in Live View, photographers and filmmakers benefit from the same AF system as the outstanding mirrorless system camera Nikon Z 6 mirrorless system camera. With eye AF, the expression of history can be captured perfectly and the "low-light autofocus" ensures reliable subject recognition down to a light value of -6 EV. Photographers using the optical viewfinder benefit from unique subject tracking and fast switching between advanced AF modes.

Thanks to high continuous shooting rates, this camera is even more versatile: it offers up to 7 fps when shooting with the viewfinder and up to 12 fps in silent release mode when shooting in Live View - both with tracking metering and AF. Another remarkable feature is the very fast shutter speed of 1/8000 s, which allows even fast-moving subjects to be captured sharply. By extending the exposure time to up to 900 s, fascinating light trails and night landscapes can also be shown to their best advantage.

Videographers can record film material in outstanding quality with the D780. With the image sensor and its increased resolution of 6K, the camera produces excellent 4K/UHD footage at 30p/25p/24p without cropping. Videographers can also record HLG HDR footage with high information density on an external video recorder and display it directly on a compatible TV or monitor.

Viewfinder AF

The fast autofocus system with phase detection and 51 focusing areas offers a sensitivity of up to -3 EV. Photographers also benefit from top-class subject tracking and fast switching between advanced AF modes.

AF in Live View

The hybrid AF system with 273 points works with a sensitivity of up to -4 EV or up to -6 EV in low light autofocus mode. Eye AF is available for taking photos.

Continuous shooting at up to 12 fps

Up to 7 fps can be captured with AF/AE or up to 12 fps in "Silent Live View Shutter Release" mode. Shots in RAW format are also recorded in full resolution.

Optical viewfinder and tilting touchscreen

The optical viewfinder with a magnification factor of 0.70 offers a large field of view and 100% coverage. The tilting LCD monitor with 2.359 million pixels enables both autofocus operation and triggering via touch function.

First-class image quality

Compatible with lenses with F bayonet mount. CMOS full-frame sensor with 24.5 MP. EXPEED 6 image processor. 180,000 pixel RGB sensor and advanced scene recognition system, inherited from the D850.

Particularly wide ISO range

The D780 offers a wider ISO range than the first-class D850. The range extends from ISO 100 to 51 200 and can be extended up to 204 800 and ISO 50.

D-SLR movies in full format

High-resolution 4K/UHD film material can be recorded at 30p/25p/24p without cropping. In addition to internal recording on an SD memory card, external recording with 10 BIT N-Log and Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) is also available for output.

The second generation of the Nikon image stabilizer system delivers sharp results even in low ambient light by allowing exposure times of up to four f-stops longer. The Nikon nanocrystal coating effectively reduces ghost images and stray light.

The lens housing is largely made of magnesium and components manufactured from heat-resistant technical plastic. It is therefore particularly hard-wearing and ideally equipped for intensive use. Thanks to the rubber seals around the switch and bayonet, it can even be used in damp or dusty environments without any problems.
