Sigma 24mm f1.4 Art L-Mount
The "F1.4" expands the Art product line. Building on the experience in wide-angle lens design and especially the knowledge gained through the development of the 35mm F1.4 DG HSM Art and 50mm F1.4 DG HSM Art, sagittal coma, chromatic aberration, distortion and vignetting have been successfully minimized to achieve exceptionally high optical performance with virtually no aberrations or distortion.
This lens offers optimal performance when photographing a variety of subjects, from cityscapes and mountain ranges to starry night skies that require high imaging performance, low-light interiors or shots with a soft bokeh.
Due to the minimization of aberrations through the use of the latest technologies and our know-how from many years of lens development, this lens achieves an amazing imaging performance with a very high resolution, even at the edges of the image. While it presents the focused subject with a high resolution, the 24mm F1.4 DG HSM Art also ensures a soft and natural bokeh. Both high-resolution reproduction without chromatic aberration and natural bokeh are possible with an open aperture
. Outstanding correction of sagittal coma
Ideally, a fast lens already has a high imaging performance over the entire image area at open aperture. Sagittal coma, for example, in which the rays of a point light source do not meet at one point but create a tail, is a typical reflex that occurs primarily with wide-angle lenses.
The 24mm F1.4 DG HSM Art has an optimized performance design due to the positioning of aspherical lens elements on the rear side and by adjusting the angle of incidence of the light, so that a high reproduction performance is already guaranteed at open aperture. Due to the reduced distortion of point light sources at the edges of the image, it is perfect for astrophotography and available light.
Excellent correction of chromatic aberration
In order to achieve high imaging performance, the correction of chromatic aberration is essential. The focus was therefore already on minimizing image errors during the development phase of the lens. The lens now contains FLD glass ("F" Low Dispersion) and SLD glass elements (Special Low Dispersion) and thus minimizes chromatic aberration, which is mainly visible in the peripheral area when the image is enlarged. In addition, the overall performance design ensures correction of longitudinal chromatic aberrations from the outset, which are difficult to correct later in image processing. This lens achieves high image quality over the entire focus range, ensuring sharp and high-contrast images.
Minimized distortion
Minimizing distortion was an important issue during the development of this lens. With the 24mm F1.4 DG HSM Art, the angle of incidence of the light is adjusted directly with the first lens element and each aspherical glass element has been positioned to optimize performance at the respective position. This has helped to minimize distortion across the entire field of view.
High peripheral illumination
Lenses with a wide angle of view naturally tend to have a certain amount of brightness fall-off in the peripheral areas compared to the center of the image. In the optical design of our new fast wide-angle lens, we have taken into account both the avoidance of artificial vignetting and the minimization of natural edge fall-off as far as possible. As a result, the lens achieves high-contrast results for indoor shots or astrophotos even with an open aperture. Even after stopping down once, the 24mm F1.4 DG HSM Art delivers very even brightness right to the edges and impresses with its brilliant image quality.
Design that eliminates reflections and ghost images
Right at the start of the lens design process, we examined the susceptibility to reflections and ghost images in order to achieve an optical design that is resistant even to strong backlighting. The Super Multi-Layer (SML) coating reduces flare and ghosting and delivers sharp, high-contrast images, even in backlit conditions. Individualization and flexible adjustment of the lens for more comfort or for a special application are easily possible thanks to the SIGMA USB dock and the special software.
Round aperture
The almost round aperture consists of 9 aperture blades and ensures a very pleasant bokeh outside the focal plane of the image.
Faster focusing
The Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) enables a quiet and very fast AF function. By improving the AF algorithm, the AF is significantly smoother. The lens also includes a new manual override mechanism, which switches to manual focus by turning the focus ring for each type of AF operation. This allows the photographer to adjust the focus quickly and easily. Using the optional SIGMA USB dock, conventional manual override focusing can also be set.
Brass bayonet
The lens is equipped with a solid and precise brass bayonet. The special treatment of the surface to increase its strength enables long-term use.
