The newly developed 24.1MP full-frame CMOS image sensor, powered by a latest-generation Venus Engine, enables faster readout speeds as well as high frame rate shooting in 4K120p and 5.1K60p
, and with Dynamic Range Boost mode, it achieves up to 15 stops in V-Log at frame rates below 30p. Photo features include up to 70fps high-speed continuous shooting (with pre-burst function of up to 1.5 seconds), for capturing fleeting moments.
The LUMIX S1II also enhances the workflow for diverse content production. The highly regarded Open Gate function now supports formats beyond 6K30p, enabling 5.1K60p, expanding creative possibilities.

High resolution with wonderful bokeh
While high resolution is the aim for the subject in focus, beautiful bokeh is desired outside the focal plane for a smooth transition of focus. Imaging errors such as sagittal coma and color distortions, which influence the image quality, are effectively corrected. High-resolution reproduction without blurring is achieved even at open aperture. By reducing vignetting to a minimum and preventing colour fringing in front of and behind the point of focus, a very natural bokeh is achieved.
Outstanding correction of sagittal coma
Ideally, a fast standard lens already exhibits high imaging performance over the entire image area at open aperture. The bright pressed aspherical glass lens elements, for example, ensure excellent correction of sagittal coma. Due to the reduced distortion of point light sources at the edges of the image, it is perfect for astrophotography and available light.
Correction of longitudinal chromatic aberrations
SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements are used to counter longitudinal chromatic aberrations, which are difficult to correct even during image processing, and ensure high image quality across the entire focus range. The lens therefore achieves sharp and high-contrast image reproduction.
Minimized distortion
It is not possible to compensate for distortion simply by changing the aperture values. The development phase of the lens was therefore already decisive in minimizing distortion. In the "SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG HSM", each glass element has been precisely positioned for optimized force distribution in order to reduce distortion to a minimum.
High edge illumination
The lens offers very even illumination even at the edges of the image, which can otherwise be a problem with optical systems with a large diameter. The positioning of large elements in the front lens group improves efficiency when the aperture is open. This helps to minimize vignetting and ensures the utmost clarity across the entire field of view.
Reflection and ghost elimination design
From the beginning of the lens design process, susceptibility to reflections and ghosting is studied to achieve an optical design that is resistant to even strong backlighting. The Super Multi-Layer Coating (SML) reduces flare and ghosting and delivers sharp and high-contrast images, even in backlit conditions.
Close focusing distance of 40cm
The lens incorporates a floating system that adjusts the distances between the lens groups during focusing, minimizing the required lens movements. This enables a close focusing distance of 40cm and a maximum magnification of 1:5.6. This also results in fewer aberrations at the individual shooting distances, allowing the lens to deliver high imaging performance over the entire focus range.
Fast focusing
The Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) ensures a quiet and very fast AF function. The improved AF algorithm achieves smoother AF. Manual intervention is also possible at any time, allowing sensitive focus adjustment by simply turning the focus ring.
Round aperture
The almost round aperture consists of 9 diaphragm blades and ensures a very pleasant bokeh outside the focal plane of the image.
Brass bayonet
The lens is equipped with a solid and precise brass bayonet. The special treatment of the surface to reinforce the strength enables long-lasting use.
